Instruments of broken dreams

Martin Roman, a Jewish jazz musician and pianist, fled from Germany to the British Mandate of Palestine after the Nazis seized power. There, he played for British soldiers and subsequently had his hands broken by the Jewish resistance. Disillusioned, he returned to Europe and was eventually deported to Auschwitz. Decades later, the son of the son of the niece of the jazz musician moves from Israel, where he grew up, to Germany. This is why I want to tell him this story.

"Instruments of Broken Dreams" imagines a jazz ensemble that shatters, deconstructs, and reassembles the German-Israeli culture of remembrance, searching for the tangled and forgotten threads of memory.
